Since the early to mid-nineteenth century, the need to re-enchant – to meaningfully connect to our world through mystery, wonder and awe – has been a persistent feature in our cultural history. In photos, paintings, books and site-specific installation, five Leeds artists based at East Street Arts create alter-realities within the context of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. In an ear marked by disillusionment, this exhibition explores how historical sites continue to be relevant as touchstones for our imaginative engagement with things and places.

Coinciding with the exhibition, Fountains Abbey will host illuminations, choral music and food from 5pm on the 11th and 18th as part of Fountains by Floodlight.
