Video, 2009
‘Shell of Shells’ is a video made from night-vision footage of a cityscape. The narrative unfolds in the ambivalence between spectacle and threat. Noise, light and smoke seem to be a statement of fugacity and the power of artifice but if their context is challenged so is their meaning. The role of the viewer keeps shifting from vigilant watcher to passive witness as the action is structurally fragmented.
‘Shell of Shells’ is a new work commissioned by SCAF (Sheffield Contemporary Art Forum) for the Sheffield Pavilion 2009. The Sheffield Pavilion 09 will feature the work of Sheffield based artists and will be presented at the 11th Istanbul Biennal 2009. For more info The Sheffield Pavilion 2009
Video compuesto de tomas de visión nocturna de un paisaje urbano. La narrativa de desarrolla en la ambiguedad entre espectáculo y amenaza. Ruido, luz y humo parecen ser un testamento de fugacidad y el poder del artificio, pero si se cuestiona su contexto el significado se tambalea. El papel del espectador cambia de vigilante a testigo pasivo mientras la acción es estructuralmente fragmentada.
