Animation, 2009

Series of animations constructed from raw still images from the Cassini spacecraft mission to Saturn. The work is constructed by appropriating the raw data images before they have been cleaned and undergone their final calibration to correspond with human vision. The work explores the relation between the power of technology and the self-reflective character of space exploration; confronting the constructions and perceptions of reality with virtuality.

Originally commissioned by SCAF (Sheffield Contemporary Art Forum) for the Sheffield Pavilion 2009, featuring the work of Sheffield based artists. It was presented at the 11th Istanbul Biennal 2009.

Here is one of the animations: “Moons”
