What at first glance appears to be a classic fragment of nature – sky and ocean divided by a sharp horizon line, may reveal in close inspection its artifice. Using a forced angle and light to cast an artificial sunset, book covers have been photographed to simulate seascapes.

Part of a new body of work exploring the maritime archives of the Maritime Historical Studies Centre at the University of Hull, as part of a Leverhulme Artist-in-Residence project. For more details on the residency visit
