“Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”
Dylan Thomas
Each letter of Dylan Thomas’ poem “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Night” was assigned a piano key and performed by the artist. This video extract contains the first three verses only. The performance of the full poem lasts ten minutes. The music is set against a night scape where houses’ lights flicker in the distance, indifferent to the looming smoke that drifts above.
This work was commissioned for the Laugharne Castle Poetry and Film Festival. The Laugharne Castle Poetry and Film Festival has been jointly organised by Cadw, Chapter Arts Centre, the artist Paul Evans, Longbarrow Press, Filmpoem and PoetryFilm. Supported by Film Hub Wales.
