Pencil on paper, 3 x 3 cm, 2017

This is a little drawing made by yours truly which could not be more fitting for this project. A life-size drawing of a small section of the ground on the planet Mars. Though we might be accustomed to the spectacular images of Martian vast desert landscapes, I am fascinated by these microscopic images, which make Mars somehow seem manageable, intimate and more tangible. These small spherules on the Martian surface are near Fram Crater, visited by NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover in 2004 and photographed by the microscopic imager on Opportunity’s robotic arm.

It was exhibited at PAPER Gallery in Manchester in 2017, and now is part of the ‘permanent collection’ in my miniature gallery Beyond Scale
