I am delighted to have new drawing works selected in the 2022 Leeds Summer Group Show. Opening 1-30th June, at Leeds Playhouse. More info below.
The Leeds Summer Group Show is an annual group show that Court Spencer began in 2015. For the past two years it has been presented as an online exhibition due to the pandemic. This year it returns as a physical exhibition and is presented in association with Leeds Playhouse who are hosting the exhibition in their recently refurbished, city centre venue.
198 artists from all over the world submitted works in response to the open call out and from these, 45 were selected to be part of the exhibition. The Leeds based selection panel included:
Dr Laura Claveria – a curator at Leeds Art Gallery who is responsible for the works on paper collection and the Leeds Picture Library, an art loaning scheme.
Lorna Johnson – a Leeds based artist working across a range of materials to make sculptural objects, installations, assemblages, collage and photography. She is currently doing a practice-led PhD at Leeds University.
Georgina Maud – has a background in landscape management, art history and business, and is head of Arts and Creative Development for the Leeds property developers Rushbond.
Rosie Vohra – a Leeds based artist who has exhibited widely, was included in the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2015 and is a founding member of Leeds-based Precious Art Collective.
Court Spencer – an Australian artist, curator and collaborator who founded the Leeds Summer Group Show. She has been working in Leeds since 2005.
The curator of the exhibition, Court Spencer said: “I’m really excited to see the Leeds Summer Group Show return as a physical exhibition in such a wonderful venue. It’s such a privilege to be able to showcase the works of these talented artists and to share their work not only with those who come specifically to see the exhibition but also with those who visit Leeds Playhouse and for whom the exhibition is an unexpected addition to their day.
“It really is a joyful and eclectic exhibition that celebrates contemporary artists working across a range of mediums and styles. Most of the works are for sale so visitors have the opportunity to enhance their everyday experience by living with art in their homes. The exhibition will also be available online via www.courtspencer.com.”
2022 Leeds Summer Group Show is open 1-30 June, 10am-5pm (excluding Sundays and bank holidays) at Leeds Playhouse, Playhouse Square, Quarry Hill, Leeds LS2 7UP.
