Percebes

I have recently released a new series titled Percebes, available to purchase directly from me. The works are helping support an upcoming residency at Everybody Arts, Halifax, taking place from 26 May to 13 June 2026.

Percebes consists of a series of graphite intaglio frottages on Yupo. The works are made from an incised plate, activated through pressure and friction rather than ink. Graphite is rubbed into the surface using a muller, producing shallow, slightly shifting impressions in which no two images are identical. The process combines aspects of drypoint etching, frottage and monotype, while remaining materially rooted in contact, abrasion and surface response.

Percebes (goose barnacles) grow on the exposed rocks of the Galician coast, where I am from. Formed in dense clusters along tidal edges, they are shaped by constant movement, pressure and erosion. I have long been drawn to their unusual, almost bodily appearance, as well as their distinctive taste.

The series consists of 12 unique impressions, plus a small number of retained artist proofs. Each work is signed and dated, and presented in a thick window mount ready to fit a standard 30 × 40 cm frame.
