Placing Mars at Kate Orme Studio & Gallery

I am delighted to be showing a very special selection of works at Kate Orme Studio & Gallery in Springfield Mill, Denby Dale.

The exhibition Placing Mars explores our relationship to distance, space, and scale through drawing and moving image. In the ongoing series Life Size Mars, the Martian surface is rendered at a 1:1 scale in tiny pencil drawings; Blank Orrery reflects on the many ways we’ve attempted to model and contain the Solar System—reducing its vast mechanics to something graspable; and in the moving-image work Mars was a Place, a rolling landscape accompanies a voiceover exchange between two artists on journeys, maps, dislocation and the difficulty of carrying out a long distance conversation. Across these works, the miniature becomes a means of apprehending the immense, drawing the distant within reach through careful, fragmentary acts of observation and imagination.
